Warm Weather is a Great Way to Start the NEW YEAR!

Can you believe this will be the start to the New Year?  I am so excited to get back on track.  I’m making a ton of New Year’s resolutions…some personal, some work-related.  But many health and fitness.  I don’t usually make resolutions, but this year I feel a huge change is coming.  I am excited and ready and looking forward to whatever is in store.  I feel like 2015 is my year, and I think the mild weather that is in store in helpful to my workout plans.  I have a much easier time going out for a run or driving to the gym when it’s a little warmer and there is NO snow on the ground!


No Time for Breakfast? Think again.

Sometimes I want something hot for breakfast, but don’t feel like I have enough time to really do it right.  I found this recipe and have to say, it’s great.  I never thought about microwaving an egg.  Egg in microwave makes me think of a rubbery mess.  Not so.  Try this one out this week!


I’m slow cooking some take-out.

I’m feeling a crock-pot meal, but I keep craving Chinese take-out.  So I’m getting the best of both worlds by making my own take-out in my crock-pot this week.

And…Cashew Chicken is another we really enjoy….


Christmas Tree Decorating



Isn’t it supposed to be fun?  Decorating the tree, having hot cocoa with the family…playing some Christmas music?   How does every year it become such a pain?  No one wants to go get out all of the decorations, so I go get them.  No one wants to carry them up from the basement, ok, again..I go.  No one wants to do the lights, “mom you are better at those”  uh, ok (isn’t dad taller? just saying.)  Then I begin to open all of the ornaments, now I see some interest, but usually only in the stuff I don’t want the kids touching.  The ornaments that are glass or the special ones that are one of a kind.  And, my kids want to fight over climbing the ladder to get to the highest point, but I figure out quickly, they don’t care about getting an ornament on the tree, they only want to climb the ladder to see who can jump from the highest point.  Next year, I’m pouring a whiskey, sending them all to a movie and decorating the tree by myself.

I so LOVED this Yoga DVD from Baron Baptiste.  It was one of my first introductions to yoga.  I still pull it out once in awhile, and can’t believe it was 10 years ago when I first did that video.  Some of my favorite yoga workouts are those “oldies” but goodies.  I guess the poses haven’t changed and the practice is the same so really it’s just the outfits and music on the DVD that makes this workout a true #TBT.

Dog vs. Mom


My son wants a dog for Christmas. My
husband and I have entertained this request and have even gone so far as to take him to the pet store when they have “open adoption” days. Today, I have decided to no longer entertain his request.
Over the weekend, we picked up our 12 foot Christmas tree. It is beautiful, it is  huge. And quickly, I have found out this sucker drinks an entire bucket of water a day. When I ask my son to help me water the tree, I get a Napoleon Dynamite sized “uhhhhhhhh.”
Therefore I now know if we were to get our son a dog for Christmas,  we would basically be getting ME, the MOM a dog. And I want a new pair of boots don’t want a pet. I already have two kids and a husband who need daily watering. Oh..and for the month of December,  a tree.

Santa’s List Day, 2014


Did you know there was such a day as “Santa’s List Day”?  Well, I for one think it’s a great day.  It gets me motivated to make a list.  Ok, so maybe I’m not making a list for myself, but I am making a list and checking it twice for all the people I need to remember this year.  Oh, and I think I’ll find my husbands list and add just a few things for myself;)

30-Day Core Challenge

I found this 30-Day Core Challenge and have decided it is the perfect day to start.  Today, December 3, 2014.  Add 30 days and it’s NEW YEAR’S DAY. Jan 1, 2015.  Anyone have a better way to start off the new year?  I, for one, am not starting my new year, fat.  I am going to start it off after 30 days of rocking my core…along with the rest of my normal workouts… hopefully this will balance out all the drinking I’m about to do over the holiday  my tendency to “over-do” my holiday festivities.  I also love that I don’t have to do all the moves at the same time, they can be broken up throughout the day. Just have to be sure to get them all in every day.


As you gain strength each week, increase the number of reps and length of time that you hold the plank.

Note: The plank time is a minimum target. If you feel stronger, try to hold it longer.

Twitter. To Tweet or not to Tweet

I follow a few people on Twitter.  I like to read the news, although I find it a little weird to read it backwards. I find myself scrolling down to read what happened before the actual outcome of a story.  I think the most interesting Twitter feed I have happened upon lately is @clevelandclinic.  They always have little tidbits of information that I find interesting and noteworthy. I don’t really tweet much.  I am not sure that anything I have to say is time sensitive information.  I just like to put out my “feed” in cyberspace, here on this blog, for you read at your leisure.  What Twitter feeds do you follow?  Do  you tweet?
